Who is Eligible?

• Any Veteran with a complex health history and no known etiology (medically unexplained symptoms-MUS)
• Any Veteran that has had many tests and/or treatment trials with little to no symptom improvement
• Any Veteran for which you are seeking a second opinion that is not available locally, and
• Any Veteran with concerns about possible deployment-related environmental exposures

How Do I Make a Referral?

The process for referral is different depending on where the Veteran receives their usual health care:

• VA Palo Alto Health Care System Providers (Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Livermore, Capitola, Fremont, Modesto, Monterey, San Jose, Sonora, Stockton) can refer Veterans to our program by submitting a WRIISC CONSULT in the local CPRS system or by calling 1-888-482-4376 and speaking to our clinical coordinator directly.
  

• VA Primary Care Providers in other geographic areas can make a referral through our National Referral Program.

  Referrals to the WRIISC program may only be made by the Veteran’s VA Primary Care Provider (PCP) and are done using the Inter Facility Consult (IFC) process in Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). After making an IFC, please call the WRIISC closest to you to ensure receipt.

  VA Providers: Referrals are triaged to the appropriate regional WRIISC based on VISN location:

  • CA WRIISC: VISNs 18, 19, 20, 21, 22
  • DC WRIISC: VISNs 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 16, 17
  • NJ WRIISC: VISNs 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 11, 12, 15, 23
• Private Health Care Providers interested in referring a patient to the WRIISC can call us at 1-888-482-4376.
